Notes on workshops

Yang style
T’ai Chi Chuan is a slow expansive movement. It looks easy to do, yet when you first start practicing it, you will find that it calls upon muscles, energy, balance and control that you thought you had in abundance. Practicing will gradually build up these powers in your body and your mind, helping to create wholeness. Clinical trials in China have confirmed that it is especially good for older people, but people of all ages and from all walks of life can benefit from its hauntingly beautiful exercises.

The Snake
This form has strong, sinuous and subtle movements; slow inward contractions, deceptive feints, fast outward explosions, deep squats, expansive openings. This is a demanding and deeply satisfying animal to experience and learn. It can help the body to retain suppleness and flexibility, boost the immune system and enable you to contact the knowledge of generating power. It can also promote clarity of thought.

Wild Goose Qigong
Hong-Chao Zhang says, ‘If Qigong is like a garden, then Wild Goose Qigong is like a beautiful flower.’ In our version of Wild Goose Qigong there are ten sequences based on observation of the natural activity of wild geese. With consistent practice it can cure and prevent illness, improve health and lengthen life. This ancient form is the culmination of our grading system and if you practise daily you will work on the whole body, organs, joints, muscles, tendons. You will support the immune system and promote the flow of energy through the meridians, releasing any blocks. This boosts mental performance and as we understand more fully the benefits of the form, so we gain spiritual insight and growth. The entire form can be used as a holistic exercise or separate elements can help us to work on specific parts of the system.
