Heavenly Cloud Hands

This exercise is of benefit to the heart, circulatory system and lungs. By focusing on slowing your breathing whilst co-ordinating it with the movements shown below, you may find your level of stress is reduced.

 

Begin by standing with your feet shoulder (men) or hip (women) width apart, and your knees slightly bent. Your feet should be pointing straight ahead.  Breathe through the nose throughout if possible.

Inbreath

With your palms facing upwards, use your elbows to bring your hands up in front of your body to chest height.

Outbreath

Turn your hands over so that your fingertips touch and use your shoulders to push your hands towards the sky as far as is comfortable for you.  Your palms should come together as you do this. At the top of your stretch, turn your palms to face forward.

Inbreath

Using your shoulders to do the work, lower your arms in a wide semi-circle till they are level and parallel to the floor.

Outbreath

Allow your arms to complete the circle and return to your sides ready to start the sequence again.

The exercise can be repeated as often as desired.  The more you practise, the greater the benefit
