Welcome to the Vale of York T'ai Chi Qigong Association
This small, friendly group was founded in 2001 to promote the many health benefits of practising Qigong. We attract members mainly from an area within North Yorkshire stretching from Easingwold in the South to Northallerton in the North and have strong links with Harmony T’ai Chi, which is based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire New members are given a warm welcome once they have spent some time learning the basics in one of several Beginners’ Classes held throughout the year in the local area. There is a weekly Members’ evening on Wednesdays in Thirsk supervised by a qualified teacher, Sifu Pat Brooks. We hold a monthly class on a Saturday led by our Qigong Master, Sikung Alan Box and occasional workshops which are open to non-members on Saturday or Sunday throughout the year. A list of our workshops in 2009 can be viewed by clicking here (requires Adobe Reader). There are also occasional informal pub meals and a Christmas Party to cater for (no pun intended!) the developing social aspects of the club. A newsletter is published twice a year, and members are encouraged to contribute reviews of relevant books or music, or articles about their learning or teaching experiences. From time to time there is a competition for which a small prize is awarded. The Winter 2008 newsletter can be viewed by clicking here (requires Adobe Reader). Members receive a folder in which to keep written copies of the forms and exercises taught; which builds with time into an invaluable reference work. There is also an opportunity to grade and thus formally landmark your progress in learning Qigong. A library of relevant works is available at monthly class meetings for members’ use, and club shirts in various styles are also available at a very reasonable cost. For those wishing to become instructors, there may be an opportunity to join a future 3 year Instructor Training programme run by Sikung Alan Box. Too far away to join our classes?
